Abstract

234,546. Potter, A. C. Feb. 26, 1924. Universal joints.-Sections of a shaft f in a bore-hole carry clutch members f<2>, each having a bearing block i in a central recess for the reception of a steel ball which determines the extent of the engagement of the clutch members. Split sleeves l with spherical bearing surfaces engage corresponding bearing surfaces f<3> upon the clutch members and are held by the sleeve k. The spherical surfaces and the clearances between the clutch members permit slight relative movements of the shaft members such as might be required owing to deviations in the bore-hole.
