Abstract

271,839. U.S. Tool Co., (Assignees of Hardesty, T. M.). May 25, 1926, [Convention date]. Borehole apparatus.-Wear of well casing and rotary drill tubes is reduced by providing antifriction means between them, such members being arranged so as to contact with the well casing only when the drill pipe becomes flexed. The anti-friction means are preferably mounted on couplings connecting drill-tube sections. In Fig. 1, rollers 16 are revolubly supported by rings 15, while in Fig. 7, a sleeve 31 is revolubly supported on ball bearings 37, with or without end ball bearings 40, 41. In Fig. 9, a sleeve 44 is supported on rollers 47 and has at its lower end an inward flange 45 supported on balls 49. In Fig. 11, balls 53 are mounted in separate housings 52 threaded into openings in the coupling member, and in Fig. 12, rows of balls 50 are mounted in annular grooves in the coupling member and are held by turning over the edges of the grooves.
