Dust, excluding.-A ring a of felt, leather or the like protrudes beyond the inner and outer peripheries of clamping metal rings b and is retained in position both axially and circumferentially by springs c engaging grooves m in the bearing. As shown in Fig. 1 the packing ring a is pressed against a projection n on the bearing casing l. For very dusty atmospheres two or more rings a may be arranged side by side and separated by a plate b. In another modification, springs c, Fig. 4, are fitted on both sides of the packing ring a.
