Abstract

233,742. Stenbridge, H. Nov. 28, 1923. Cranks, variable and adjustable throw.-In a variable throw crank or lever, the crank pin, and, if desired, a balance weight also, are each attached to a radially slidable rack with inclined teeth engaging corresponding rack teeth on a slidable controlling bar which passes axially through the bolt or pivot of the crank or lever. The crank K is carried by a member D slidable upon radial guides on the lever A having a central pivotal boss B. If desired a corresponding balance weight E is similarly mounted upon the opposite arm of the lever. Secured to each member D, E is a rack d<1>, e<1> formed with inclined teeth adapted to engage corresponding inclined teeth formed on opposite sides of a square bar C, Fig. 6, passing axially through the boss B. To provide for adjustment, the end of the bar C is formed with a groove c<3> which is engaged by a fork f<1> on a slidable member F connected by a link h<1> to an actuating lever H. A recessed part C<4> in the bar C enables the racks d<1>, e<1> to be disengaged. Specification 196,636, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.], is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
