Abstract
571,064. Control lever mechanism. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., URRY, W. C., and NEEDHAM, V. E. Oct. 7, 1943, No. 16417. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] Control lever mechanism, applicable to a bicycle three-speed hub, comprises a fixed ratchet plate 1 with teeth 31, 32, which cooperate with a pawl 27 pivoted at 25 to a plate 13 itself pivoted on a fixed stud 9. The control lever 11 is pivoted on the stud 9. The rocking plate 13, which is urged anticlockwise by a spring 17, has a projection 15 engaging the underside of the lever 11 and a pin 19 carrying a link 21 to which the gear change cable 23 is fixed. Clockwise movement of the lever 11 rocks the plate 13 through the projection 15, causes the pawl 27 to move over the ratchet plate 1, and pulls the cable 23. On reverse movement of the-lever 11 the latter abuts a lug 33 on the pawl 27 and lifts the pawl 27 clear of the teeth 31, 32, the cable moving in the reverse direction under the tension of the spring means of the variable speed gear.
