233,188. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Eagle Picher Lead Co.). June 26, 1924. Blowpipe burners.-Lead from a pot F set in a furnace E issues by a pipe G and a nozzle or burner H which is supplied with hot compressed air through a pipe I and fuel such as compressed gas through a pipe J. The lead is atomized by the compressed air in the burner H and forms a long flame L in a combustion chamber A. Sulphur dioxide is admitted to the flame by a pipe K, and the composition of the basic lead sulphate produced is regulated by controlling the proportion of sulphur dioxide. The nozzle or burner H comprises a central piece H' containing the passage H<2> for the lead, and having a flange H<3> to receive a body portion H<5> which carries a gas inlet H<9> and air inlet H<10> and encloses a chamber H<4> containing dead air. Upon a flat face H<6> of the piece H<5> is arranged a section H" having a conical extension H<12> which forms, with the corresponding part of the piece H<5>, an air chamber H<7> connected with the air inlet H<10>. Upon the section H" is arranged an outer portion H<13> which, with the conical part H<12>, encloses the gas chamber. The parts are secured together by nuts H<15>. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 100,069, [Class 1 (iii), Oxides &c., Metallic].
