Ropes and like clasping devices.-A fire-escape comprises a loop-carrying rope J wound once around a bar A which is placed across and inside a window and is fitted with pivoted supports B adapted to rest by their thickened ends upon the window sill. The bar puts a drag upon the movement of the rope as a person is being lowered. Stops hold the supports B in the open position and pivoted stops H hold them in the folded position. A piece of carpet G protects the rope and a hand loop O, P passing through the carpet assists a person in getting out of the window. When not in use the rope is wound longitudinally upon the bar A, being held in position by pivoted pieces M and the folded supports B. The last person to escape from the building throws out one end of the rope and slides down.
