Abstract

687,780. Ladders. MARRISON, H. M. Sept. 29, 1950 [Feb. 20, 1950], No. 4261/50. Class 20(ii) A flexible fire ladder which is stored in a container 1 adjacent an upper storey window 4 comprises metal stirrups 14 carried by a pair of ropes 15 which are held apart by canvas webbing 16. The ropes may be reinforced with wire or chain. Loops 22 of the ropes and webbing behind the stirrups hold the ladder away from the wall. The ladder is arranged in zig-zag folded condition in the container 1, being supported on an inclined ramp 7 and retained by a hinged door 9 The upper end of the ladder is secured to a hook &c. 23. The lower end of the ladder ropes are knotted at 26 and pass through notches in the container doors 9, 11, a hand-grip 25 being provided whereby the end of the ladder may be pulled and the doors opened. An upper guide 29 holds the ladder in position in the container 1. Looped hand-grips 24 are provided near the upper ends of the ropes. In a modification, a double webbing having longitudinal lines of stitching may be used having chains within the compartments formed by the stitching.
