Tipping-apparatus; staiths.-The hoisting ropes fare connected to the end frames of the tipping cradle g by means of levers h pivoted on the cradle at i so that the ropes are clear of the wagon when the cradle is in its normal position. When the cradle is hoisted the levers turn about their pivots and the ropes pass across the ends of the cradle and wagon. The levers h may rest normally on fixed abutments k or upon springs, and they are arranged to prevent excessive pressure between the cradle and the vertical guides. The hoisting drums e on the staith a project outwardly so that the ropes f pass directly to the levers. The invention is shown in connection with a staith arranged between tracks b, b<1>, for coaling locomotives on one track from wagons on the other. The coal is delivered into an elevated bunker n provided with outlet shoots o having outlet valves r. The cradle g may comprise a rocking rail platform for the wagon as described in Specification 194,812. The lateral supporting beam y for the wagon may be fixed on the cradle and present a curved face to the wagon so as to be suitable for wagons of different widths. The cradle may be tilted by rollers u, v co-operating with curved guides as described in Specification 209,444. The sustaining beam x may be carried by arms w<1> pivoted at m, and may be held against the top of the wagon by balanceweights, or as shown, arms w of the levers w' may be engaged by the rollers u on the cradle during tipping. As a modification, the rollers u may cooperate with rotary keepers in the manner described in Specification 209,444. Specification 228,956 also is referred to.
