Abstract
231,906. Luftschiffbau Zeppelin Ges., and Schnitzer, B. April 7, 1924, [Convention date]. Anchoring; landing- places; starting.-Airships are secured by a flexible, e.g. ball-andsocket, coupling to a heavy vehicle which is preferably provided with a winch for hauling in the anchor cable. One member of the coupling may be carried by the ship (on the gondola itself or a framework attached thereto) and the other on the vehicle. As shown, however, the ship carries both ball 7 and socket 8, 9, Fig. 4, the latter being formed to engage a member 10 carried by the vehicle. The cable passes through a coupling and when it is completely wound in, a spring pressed bolt 11 enters a groove 12 in the member 9 to lock the coupling to the vehicle. The part 10 is supported by two cranked levers 16, Figs. 5 - - 7, the other ends of which are coupled to brake cylinders 20 to take up vertical shocks. An extension of the member 10 is coupled to a further brake cylinder 24 to take up horizontal shocks. The ship is towed by the vehicle to a turn-table, Fig. 8, provided at its centre with pipes 30 for feeding water, fuel, gas, &c. The vehicle is fastened at 31 to the turn-table. The electric driving-motor 32 is preferably controlled automatically to causethe table to follow the movements of the ship with changes of the wind. To facilitate starting when the ship is released it may be given an acceleration upwards bv a sudden loading of the pistons 21 of the brake cylinders 20.
