Abstract
365,238. Mooring. SHORT, A. E. and SHORT, H. O., Seaplane Works, Rochester, Kent. Nov. 11, 1930, No. 33910. [Class 113 (i).] A mooring buoy for marine aircraft, launches, &c. comprises a hollow, airtight body of light pliable material with a net, skirt or other stress distributing means leading to an attachment for the mooring cable. In a modification, the body has a prolongation provided with a stopper or end fitting forming an attachment for the mooring cable. In Figs. 1, 2 and 5, the buoy A comprises superposed layers of fabric and rubber moulded to shape and vulcanized; expanded cork or rubber &c. may be incorporated in the material. A skirt B of similar construction is attached. A stopper E is secured by wire binding A<2> and comprises an upper part E<1> with a plugged orifice E2 for initial inflation and a non-return valve E<4> for final inflation, a lower part E<7> and a watertight cap E<10> all held together by a screw E<5> and nut E<6>. The buoy is connected by rods C to an attachment D<1> connected to a wire mooring cable F<1> with'a swivel F<2> and through links H, I respectively to a mooring line J of rubber with floats J<1> and mooring loops J<2> and to a wire mooring rope K supported from the line J. In Fig. 8 the buoy L has a downward prolongation L<1> held being the upper and lower parts of a similar two-part stopper, the lower part forming an attachment for the mooring cable. The wire ropes and metal parts are of non-corrodible material such as stainless steel, gunmetal or phosphor bronze. For night use, a guttapercha &c. case with a lens lid is mounted on the buoy and contains a light and a battery therefor, a rubber cushion surrounding the lens..
