Abstract
231,252. Canavan, W. F. Jan. 7, 1924. Fanlight, rooflight, and pivoted window opening and closing apparatus.- hinged window or panel for wall openings, adapted. to close by its own weight and to open under strong direct pressure from within, is helped automatically in its open position, by means which can be operated to close the hinged member. Rods 9 are pivotally secured to the hinged members 1 and also to levers 10, which at their opposite ends are loosely mounted on the extending hubs 16 of ratchets 15, fixedly mounted on transverse shafts 17. Pawls 19, pivotally secured to the levers 10, are held to the ratchets 15 by springs 20. Each shaft 17 carries a worm wheel 18, in engagement with a worm mounted on an operating shaft 22. When the hinged member is subject to pressure from within, such as an explosion, the member 10 and pawl 19 swing about the shaft 17 and the window or panel opens. Opening of the window &c. can also be effected by turning the worm shaft 22 which operates the rachet 15 and hence the pawl 19 and lever 10. Closure of the window &c. is effected by reversing the direction of rotation of the worm shaft. The hinges 4 are so arranged as to allow the window &c. to hang downwardly so that its plate extends over the top of the hinged member next below. A limiting-stop 13 is provided on the lever 10.
