Abstract

203,844. Peters &. Co., Ltd., G. D., and LeClair, L. J. July 19, 1922. Sliding vehicle-window opening and closing apparatus.-In chain and sprocket operating devices for sliding windows, particularly of railway &c. vehicles of the kind in which the clutch is provided to lock or hold the window in any position, the clutch disc 17 is slidably mounted on the spindle 7 of the driving sprocket, and is spring- pressed into engagement with the fixed boss 22, and is normally held against rotation by interengaging projections on the disc and boss, to prevent movement of the chain 3 and window 2. The clutch is disengaged by rotation of a camshaped boss 26 to which the handle 9 is keyed, and is driven on continued rotation by engaging projections on boss and clutch. The window is preferably balanced by lazy-tongs and springs, the adjustable bracket 29 being provided with connections to the levers 27 and to the chain. The operating device is carried by a detachable framework preferably of angle-iron. and the bearing 12 for the lower sprocket is adjustable by means of a screw 36, the bolt holes being slotted.
