Abstract

Vehicle-window opening and closing apparatus; draught and weather excluding means forming part of f sash; raitting of windows, preventing.-Means for opening and closing the sliding lights of windows, more especially those of automobiles &c., comprises a chain E running over sprockets on fixed spindles a, A'. The upper spindle is driven from a shaft g through gearing G, F, and is provided with a pawl-andratchet device K, K' to hold the window in any desired position. The pawl K<1> can be released by a lever M passing up. into the window-opening to allow the window to be lowered. The lower spindle A<1> is carried in an overhanging mounting P, vertically adjustable on a bracket Q. A spiral spring J, secured at one end to the casing b<1> and at the other end to a sleeve b<3> secured to the spindle g, is provided to balance the weight of the sliding light. The spring can be adjusted .by releasing the sleeve b<3> and turning it relatively to the spindle g. By driving the upper sprocket through gearing, the active side of the chain is allowed to move in the central vertical line of the light. To exclude moisture and draught, the lower edge of the glass of the light is enclosed by a bar S having a lining of rubber &c. with a projecting beading s<1> on the outside, adapted, when the window is closed, to contact with the under surface of a plate T fixed on the door panel. To prevent rattling and to avoid sticking of the light in its guides, the guide is provided with a metal liner with spring sides.
