Abstract
297,926. Bailey, D., and Lofthouse, W. Aug. 12, 1927. Doors, wagon.-In a sliding door for a railway hopper wagon operated by toothed gearing and provided with rollers j running on slides f, a tight closure of the door a against the edges of the opening, such as is desirable in the transport of cool dust, flour and like materials, is effected by the provision on the slides f of inclines h with which the rollers j engage towards the end of the closing movement. The lower edge of the door is provided with an angle iron p, Fig. 3, carrying spring-pressed catches r<2>, which automatically engage a fixed angle-iron s and are released by the rotation of a shaft u fitted with releasing cams u<1> and, at each end of the shaft, with an operating pedal or lever t. In the construction shown the opening and closing of the door is effected by the engagement of a rack b on the door with a gearwheel c on a rotatable shaft d.
