Abstract

230,615. Warbrook, F. G. Feb. 29, 1924. Condensers. - A variable condenser comprises a pair of electrically - c o n - nected, curved, resilient, :metal plates d, the curvature of which is adapted to be yaried by pressure applied to opposite edges thereof in a direction parallel to the chord of the arc assumed, by the plates so as to vary the distance between these plates and fixed plates forming the other element of the condenser. The fixed plates may be formed by the metal casing a' and its cover a<2>, Fig. 2, and the resilient plates d, covered by a sheet of mica d<1>, are disposed between insulating blocks b, c, the latter of which is adapted to be displaced to vary the curvature of the plates d. The displacement is effected by the screwed members e, f, the former being adapted to effect a rough adjustment and the latter screwing within the former to effect fine adjustment. The plates a<1>, a<2> may also be of a resilient character so as to be drawn inward to approach the plates d. In an alternative construction, Fig. 5, the fixed plates j are disposed between the resilient plates d, the curvature of the latter being varied by a nut h on a screwed stem g passing through the centre of the condenser.
