Abstract

230,539. Loftus, T. J., and Bell, H. Dec. 11, 1923. Revolving-cylinder pumps; regulating delivery by closing suction valves.-The pump, compressor, or meter comprises a motor 11 revolving in a casing 10 and provided with a number of radial slots 12 in which reciprocate rollers or blocks 17 carried by an eccentric disc 15 mounted on a driven shaft 14. The slots are open towards the centre of the rotor and have ports 13 which communicate successively with the inlet and outlet chambers 18, 19. The output may be regulated by means of an adjustable plate 22 which may close the ports 13 before they leave the inlet chamber. The spindles 16 on which the pistons 17 are mounted may carry extensions working in diametral guide slots in the wall of the casing, and the rotor may run on anti-friction rollers mounted in the casing wall. If the capacity of the slots is known and a revolution counter is mounted on the shaft of the rotor 11 or disc 15, the output may be measured. The apparatus may be used as a meter by forcing the liquid into it.
