230,196. Saunders, S. E. Dec. 13, 1923. Ships. - The hulls of flying-boats and other structures such as fuselages, nacelles, struts, spans, &c. are composed of a series of strips a of channel or U-section placed side by side with. the flanges of adjacent strips in contact and connected together. The strips extend longitudinally of the structure and are strengthened by internal cross frames e secured by tongues f which project from the flanges b of alternate strips a. The strips are narrowed or tapered in width where the surface of the hull or body becomes reduced and all the flanges are on one side of the structure.
