Abstract

A braking device for a baby carriage includes a rubber brake pad (4, figure 3) which, in use, is released from its spring biased braking engagement with a wheel by squeezing the brake handle 1 against the main carriage handle 2 <IMAGE>

Description

SAFETY BRAKING DEVICE This invention relates to a Safety Braking Device.
This Braking Device aims to improve safety on Baby Carriages.
According to the present invention there is provided a brake handle fitted under the main carriage handle. Running from the brake handle would be a sleeved cable that would extend down the length of the carriage handle and frame. Positioned above the wheel at the back of the carriage would be a braking system consisting of a cylinder with a rubber stop pad positioned vertically at the top of the carriage wheel. This device would be clamped to the carriage frame. Inside the cylinder would be a spring designed to plunge the cylinder downward when the brake lever at the handle is released.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:- Figure 1. Shows brake lever in position on carriage handle.
Figure 2. Shows position of brake cylinder mounted above rear carriage wheel.
Figure 3. Illustrates internal components of brake cylinder.
In order to operate the braking system the operator would squeeze the brake handle Fig.1 (1) against the main carriage handle Fig.1 (2) doing so would keep the brake spring raised Fig.3 (3) which would keep the rubber brake pad Fig.3 (4) raised and away from the wheel of the carriage Fig.2 (5). As soon as the brake handle Fig.1 (1) is released, the spring Fig.3 (3) would release, causing the brake pad Fig.3 (4) to push against the carriage wheel Fig.2 (5) stopping the wheel Fig.2 (5) from moving. Unlike conventional carriage brakes, which require action to place the brake, this braking system would require action to release the brake, providing a greater level of safety for baby carriages.

Claims (1)

  1. The braking device comprises of a brake lever fitted to the carriage handle with a sleeved cable running from the brake lever down to the cylinder, where once the handle is released the rubber stop is pushed down on the wheel via means of a coil spring.
