Abstract
229,069. Butlers, Ltd., and Reeves, A. Jan. 23, 1924. Lantern shutters.-A vehicle lamp adapted for general illumination and for indication purposes at will comprises an egg-shaped body a, into the open end of which is screwed a bezel b<1> having a serrated edge and carrying a clear glass b, adapted for example to illuminate a taxi-meter, and also carrying a metal cylinder b<2>. This cylinder is held in position by a helical spring b' and has a key-hole slot b<5> through which the bulb-holder d projects and the circular portion, of which is adapted, upon rotation of the cylinder b<2> by the bezel b<1>, to cover or uncover an indicator glass c. This glass, which may be coloured for example red, and may bear an inscription such as " For Hire," is arranged in a plane at rightangles to that of the clear glass b and opposite to a supporting socket f.
