Motor power plant; axial-flow type; balancing moving parts.-A turbine installation comprises at least two series-connected sections a, b, each containing impulse and reaction stages c, d, e, f, the axial thrusts of the two sections being opposed to one another. To obviate axial thrust over a range of pressure drops, the pressure differences of each reaction portion may be adjusted by lengthening or shortening that portion, with a corresponding shortening or lengthening of the impulse portion. The reaction portions may be of drum or wheel form. Instead of the impulse stages, reaction stages may be used in which only a relatively small part of the whole fall of pressure in the stage takes place in the moving vanes. A third casing g may be provided which contains three reaction portions h, i, k, the axial thrust of the part k balancing the difference of thrust due to the sections a, b.
