Abstract

Axial-flow type; balancing moving parts.-In a steam turbine installation comprising a single flow turbine a, and a double flow turbine c, d on the same shaft, the end thrust set up in the turbine a is balanced by an equal but opposite thrust set up in the turbine c, d. This balancing thrust may be set up by admitting steam through a hole g in the first disc h of the section d, the opposite disc i being subjected to lower pressure of steam which has passed the first nozzles. It may be set up by providing one portion of the double flow turbine with reaction blades, while the other portion is provided with impulse blades, or both portions mav have reaction blades, the amount of reaction being different.
