Abstract

228,392. Walker, C. C. April 2, 1924. Hydroplane vessels.-In a hydroplane, having metallic attachments constituting stepped cavities secured beneath the hull, and to each of which cavities air is supplied through a pipe extending above the water line, the air supply 20 terminates in a flattened funnel-shaped attachment 19 which extends substantially across the flat bottom of the boat. The air supply pipe has a funnel-shaped opening 21 at its upper end. In a modification, the air supply pipes extend up the sides of the hull and enter the bottom funnel laterally. In another form, the air discharge slots extend up the sides of the boat. Air may be supplied to a series of funnels arranged in stepped relation through orifices in the bottom, the size of the orifices being controlled by plugs 25, Fig. 4, which are simultaneously operated by bell-crank levers 26, 27, associated with a common operating rod 28.
