Abstract

Viscose solutions, more particularly such as are to be used in the manufacture of artificial silk, are freed from alkali sulphide by the addition of hydrogen peroxide, or alkali peroxides, persulphates and similar per-salts, in proportions sufficient to oxidize the sulphide to sulphate. The hydrogen peroxide &c. is added gradually and with vigorous stirring which is continued for some time after all the reagent has been added.
