Abstract

4 -Sulpho-o-benzoylbenzoic acid is obtained by oxidizing 4-mercapto-o-benzoylbenzoic acid, or a mixture with its corresponding disulphide, with alkaline oxidizing agents such as the halogens in alkaline solution, alkaline hypochlorites, sodium and hydrogen peroxide, and sodium perborate; an example is given in which chlorine in caustic soda is specified. German Specification 247,412 is referred to.
