Abstract

The process described in the parent Specification, which comprises the formation of porous plaster and cement compositions by the addition of substances containing active oxygen and catalysts, is modified by the use, instead of or in addition to the catalysts, of substances which effect the release of the oxygen by chemical reaction with the oxygen-containing substances and are themselves changed in the process, e.g. potassium permanganate, calcium hypochlorite and alkali hypochlorite. In an example, a porous cement composition is made by adding 20 c.c. of hydrogen peroxide (30 per cent) and 20 g. of potassium permanganate in aqueous solution to 2400 g. of Portland cement.
