Abstract
228,325. Berry & Co., Ltd., H., and Bull, G. Jan. 17, 1924. Squirting.-In a press for extruding metal rods the die and a billet are inserted in the open end of a container which is then closed and the whole forced over a stationary plunger arranged in the other end of the container. The die 2 and billet 3 are placed in a trough' 1, Fig. 4, in line with the container 4 into which they are then forced by a plunger 5. The trough is then moved aside and a closure 7 brought into line with the container 4 which is then pressed against it by small pistons 8, Fig. 1. The main piston 9 then presses the closure and container to the left thereby forcing this over the stationary plunger 6 and extruding most of the billet. The container alone is then moved to the left by the pistons 8 and the unextruded residue 3y of the billet is seized by a clamp 10, Fig. 11, and moved to the right by plungers 11, Fig. 1, so that it can be cut off by a circular saw.
