Special quantities, registering.-In a supply meter having a train d registering normal consumption and a second train c for registering consumption above a predetermined rate, a contact-making instrument of the ammeter, wattmeter, voltampere meter, or like type is employed in series with the registering meter for controlling the electromagnet h that effects the change from one counting-train to the other. In the construction shown, the moving part of a voltampere meter carries a projection o actuating a movable arm p, which carries a contact q and is controlled by a spring r adjustable bv means of a lever s movable over a scale m. When the supply current reaches the predetermined limit, fixed contacts t are bridged by the contact q, thereby closing the circuit of the electromagnet h, which causes the driving-pinion g to be disengaged from the pinion f of the normal train d and engaged with the pinion e of the excess train c. In an alternative, construction the pointer of a voltampere or other meter cooperates with an adjustable contact carried, for example, by an arm mounted coaxially with the pointer.
