Density separators.-In apparatus for separating grit &c. from smoke &c. adapted to be applied as a chimney top or in the chimney itself and of the kind having an outer casing a formed with an upper expansion space h, lower inlet d<2> and upper outlet a<3>, combined with a tundish formation c having an outlet pipe g, a ring of vanes i is arranged as shown in Figs. 1 or 3, to cause the smoke &c. to pass tangentially into the tundish formation. Inclined or spiral guides n may also be provided in the annular space d. A disc o is provided in the tundish formation to prevent the grit &c. collected at the bottom thereof from rising towards the outlet a<3>.
