Abstract
227,938. Baumann, K., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., Ltd. Oct. 27,1923. Casings.-In turbines wherein the diaphragms 4 carrying the stationary blades or nozzles are carried by a stator 3 exposed on both sides to the motive fluid, the stator 3 is at one end connected with a part of the turbine which is unaffected by irregular expansion of the casing 1, as for example the gland or bearing housing 10, and at the other end is resiliently supported, for example, by a resilient frustro-conical web 11 formed integral with the stator member 3. Flexible bucket rings, as described in Specification 221,632, may be used as the resilient support instead of the web 11. A rib 12 on the stator 3 engages a groove 13 in the casing 1, thus preventing leakage and transmitting end-thrust. The first diaphragm 4, Fig. 2, may be housed within a groove 17 in a ring 18 formed integral with webs 19 on the casing 1, the stator 3 being received within a flange 20 on this diaphragm and being capable of slight axial movement relative thereto.
