Abstract

227,811. Deutsche Maschinenfabrik Akt.-Ges. Jan. 14, 1924, [Convention date]. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Clutches, claw; operating clutches. - In claw clutches for presses, shears, punches, &c., electromagnetic controlling-means are employed, whereby the instant of engagement may be timed to ensure full tooth contact and the instant of disengagement may be varied according to the height at which it is desired to leave the tool above the work. In contradistinction to clutches in which the driven member is uncoupled by cam action, clearance between the teeth can be ensured when the clutch is disengaged. Remote control is also facilitated. A driving-wheel 1, loose on the shaft 3, is coupled to a spring-pressed clutch member 2, slidable on the shaft, by the action of magnetizing-coils 7, 8, which are energized respectively from slip rings 9, 10 and 15, 16. An insulating slip ring 12 is provided with conducting-segments 13, corresponding in number and portion to the clutch claws and electrically connected to one another and to a slip ring 11. A slip ring 14, having a break 17, rotates with and is circumferentially adjustable on the clutch part 2. On depressing a button 18, current flows from the positive main P by way of a brush 12', segment 13, ring 11, brush 11<1>, and coil 19' in a switch box 19 to the negative main N. Energization of the coil 19<1> closes main and auxiliary contactors 21, 22, allowing current to flow by way of a brush 16<1>, ring 16, coil 8, ring 15, brushes 15', 10<1>, ring 10, coil 7, ring 9, brush 9', and switch 21, so engaging the clutch. When, due to rotation of the part 2, the break 17 leaves a brush 14', the button 18 may be released, current then passing through the coil 191 by way of a brush 14" (made double to span the break 17), ring 14, brush 14', and switch 22. The circuit is broken and the switches 21, 22 opened when the break 17 again reaches the brush 14<1>. The rear faces of the clutch teeth are bevelled to facilitate meshing. The clutch is enclosed in a. casing 23.
