Abstract
227,515. Roadless Traction, Ltd., and Johnson, P. H. Oct. 15, 1923. Self-aligning bearings; dust, excluding. - Endless - track shoes, of the kind described in Specification 215,106, are connected by a joint pin 12 engaged by a bush which has a spherical portion housed in a spherical seating either in the link or in a tube in the link, the sides of the link or tube being pressed over to retain the bush. The bush 19, Fig. 3, has a spherical portion 190 housed in a seating 180 in the male end 18 of the link 11. The bush may be in three parts to allow of its removal. The joint is sealed by felt or cork washers 20 enclosed in metal housings 21, or by leather washers held in place by spring rings, or by sealing rings carried in the ends of the bush. The part 190 may engage a metal tube 24, Fig. 5, felt washers 25 being provided. In a modification, Fig. 6, the pin 12 has a spherical portion 120 engaging a ring 26 prevented from rotating by a stud 27 entering a slot 121 in the pin 12, spring-pressed packing 260 being retained by washers 28 secured by the bent-over ends of the tube 24. The joint may be made with self-aligning ball bearings 30, Fig. 8, metal rings 31 serving as seatings for the packing rings 32, 33.
