Abstract
226,665. Clarke, A. E. Nov. 29, 1923. Railway - carriage doors, fastening automatically. - Railwaycarriage doors a r e automatically locked by catches moved to the locking position by centrifugal means driven by a wheel of the carriage. A governor mechanism 1 is mounted in a U-shaped frame. 2 pivoted at 3 beneath the carriage and pressed by gravity and a spring 35 towards the carriage wheel 8. A wheel 10 to which the governor arms 9 are pivoted contacts the wheel 8 so that on rotation of the wheel the governor rises and lifts a U- shaped member 14 which acts through link 15 and arm 16 to rotate a rod 17, and by further arms 19, 21 to rotate a rod 22 carrying catches 25 for engaging recesses 30 in the doors. The catches are rounded and the ends pivoted and spring-controlled to allow shutting of a door after the catches are shot. A guard 31 is provided over each catch. The outward movement of the balls of the governor is limited by a sleeve 38 on the governor spindle 5, or a spring and adjustable, collar may be provided on the spindle so that the catches are not operated till a predetermined speed of the train is reached. Two governors are preferably provided on each coach to control respectively the doors on each side. Means may be provided such as a forked lever to raise the governor and hold the catches at one side of the carriage in operative position when desired.
