The deflector may comprise a flat or curved plate e, Fig. 4, mounted on a vertical or horizontal pivot g or a sliding sleeve with a deflecting lip b, Fig. 2, and an opening c through which the metal falls undeflected when the sleeve is advanced by the bar d as shown. The lip b may have the modified form shown in broken lines.
