Abstract

226,500. Michalski, K., (Assignee of Adam, C.). Dec. 17, 1923, [Convention date]. Hydrogen is produced by the action of superheated steam upon molten iron. In the preferred arrangement of plant, Fig. 1, carbon monoxide is also produced in a second generator B in communication with the hydrogen generator A. Oxygen, which is preferably superheated, is introduced through the pipe f into liquid iron in the generator B whereby ferrous oxide is formed which reacts with the block g formed by agglomerating ground coke with clay or pitch under pressure. Carbon monoxide escapes by the pipe h. The steam introduced into the hydrogen generator A through the pipe a is superheated by the iron in the passage D, but is prevented from reacting therewith by the layer of slag b.
