Overhead travellers; jib cranes; staiths and elevated structures.-A transporter for loading and unloading ships comprises a horizontal jib arm b mounted directly upon an overhead turntable a, and movable to and fro in the direction of its length. The movement of the jib does not alter the height of the load, which may travel in any path to clear obstacles. The luffing and slueing motors may be controlled by a single lever arranged so that the load will follow the movements of the operator's hand. The turntable may be fitted with a counterweight moving in the opposite direction to the jib. A traversing trolley with fixed or slueing jib b<1> may be arranged on the transporter structure as shown, and two transporters may be arranged side by side with turntables at different elevations, so that four cranes may work over the same hatchway.
