Abstract

224,648. Quain, J. R. Sept. 7,1923. Resistance coatings and deposits.-In the heating of buildings by thin widely spread electrical conducting bodies of uniform conductivity or thickness applied to insulating supporting surfaces which are secured to the walls or the like of the building, the supporting sheet or frame B is made of such dimensions as to project beyond the edges of the resistance element A to enable the frame to be secured to the wall without the fastening devices making contact with the resistance. The resistance may consist of finely powdered graphite or metallic compounds mixed with a binding material and finely-divided asbestos or slag wool, and may be applied as a paste. Alternatively, it may consist of metal foil, a coating of enamel or asbestos being interposed between the element and the supporting frame. If desired, the resistance may be deposited on the frame by electrolysis. In another modification, the resistance is held between two sheets of damp proof insulating material hermetically joined at their edges.
