Abstract

223,774. Caretta, E. Dec. 18, 1923. Indicators actuated by floats; indicators, alarm and signal.-A sleeve 3 is moved on a tubular guide 1 by a Bowden wire 9 and hingedly carries a float 6 which on entering the liquid causes a tooth 8 to engage the rack 2 and prevent further movement. The wire 9 is attached to a knob 14 carrying a pointer which moves over a scale 17. The scale may be a dial with a circular or spiral slot, the wire 'being wound on a drum. For a vessel under internal pressure, a rod is inserted in the length of wire to move in a stuffing-box in the cover. The float may be hollow and contain mercury which connects two contacts to actuate an electrical alarm when the float is level.
