Abstract
The process of the parent Specification, according to which quinoneanilides derived from chloranil and p-aminosalicylic acid or its derivatives are heated with sulphuric acid, is extended to the treatment of (a) quinone anilides from trichlortoluquinone and o- or p-aminosalicylic acid or their derivatives, (b) quinoneanilides from chloranil and o-aminosalicylic acid or its derivatives. Nitration may be simultaneously effected. If the above processes or that of the parent Specification are carried out in the presence of an oxidizing agent lower temperatures may be used. The following examples are given:-(1) the condensation product from chloranil and o-aminosalicylic acid is warmed with nitro-sulphuric acid at 90 DEG C. and the product converted into the sodium salt; it dyes chromemordanted wool violet; the dyestuff obtained from the dianilido-quinone from trichlortoluquinone and p-aminosalicylic acid is similar; (2) the dianilidoquinone from chloranil and p-aminosalicylic acid is stirred with concentrated sulphuric acid and potassium bichromate for some hours at 0-10 DEG C.; the alkali salt of the product dyes chromed wool in bluish-violet shades: (3) trichlortoluquinone is condensed with p-aminosalicylic acid and the dianilide heated with concentrated sulphuric acid.
