Abstract
223,319. French, G. F. July 21, 1923. Wire and cord strainers.- A belt or similar tensioning and securing device comprises a frame A and an arrangement of two cross-rods, one, b being carried by the frame and the other, d, being pivoted to the frame either through a cross-bar c sliding on the frame, Figs. 1 and 8, or directly as in Fig. 13. One end of the belt is permanently secured to the cross-rod d, the other end being passed around the cross-rod b and being tensioned by rotating the lever-frame A so that the end b passes through the link D, of which the second eross-rod d forms a part, and so that the cross-rod c, in conjunction with the first cross-rod b, nips and holds the free end of the belt. The pivot of the link D connecting it to the frame may be out of the plane of the latter so as to lessen the tendency of the frame to spring back, but a small buckle and strap f<1>, or chain f<2>, Fig. 2, eccentric sleeve k, Fig. 13, or a bifurcated sliding member, not shown, may be provided to prevent this, or, in a modified form, Fig. 8, in which the cross-rod b is slidingly mounted on the frame, the ends of the frame may be passed through holes d<2> in the link D to secure the apparatus. Pins a<@> limit the movement of the cross-bar c. In a modification, not shown, the opposing faces of the members band c may be serrated.
