Description

' E. 5. MIX 4 BELT FOR PERSONAL WEAR Filed Sept. 16, 1927 'INVEINTOR Edwm S. l hk )h': ATTORNEY may be employed for opposing the movement of the anchoring device 19 relatively to the guide 16. In this instance, two springs 20 surround the guide bars 17 within the pocket 15 and abut the guide 16 and also a cross piece 21 which connects the inner ends of the guide'bars 17 Stitches 22 may be passed through the belt on opposite sides of the guide 16 to hold the latter against movement in the pocket 15. a
In the embodiment shown in Figs. 3 to 6 inclusive, the belt end 5 is secured to a loop or anchoring member 3 like the embodiment illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2. The anchoring means at the other end of the buckle frame isdifierentand'comprises a bar 13 with a headed projection 13 on the rear face thereof. This headed projection is adapted to pass into the narrow portion of a bayonet slot 19 in a plate'19 which is pivoted at 19 to across piece 19 connecting the two ends of two guide barsl? which operate through openings .18 in the rear layer ofthe belt end 14; to extend into a pocket 15 which encloses a guide 16 and spring means opposing the movement of thetwo bars 17. In this instance, the two guide bars are formed in one piece with a cross bar 21, and a single spring surrounds both bars 17 and the cross piece and has'itsendsin abutment with the guide 16. a. In bothembodiments of the invention, the two anchoring means on the belt buckle are spaced from the rear face of the front plate while an anchoring means is provided on the inner face of thebelt in spaced relation to the overlapping end to engage one of the anchoring'means so that the overlapping end of the belt may pass between the front plate of the buckle frame and the two anchoring means on the buckle frame to cover both anchoring means. This arrangement makes it possible to obtain an overlapping end of substantially uniform length in belts, notwithstanding variations in waist measurements. An elastic or expansion means is so arranged adjacent the overlapping belt end that it is inconspicuous and, at thesame time, provides for an overlapping end of substantially uniform length in different waist measurements.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is The combination :with a belt, and belt buckle secured at one end to the belt, the belt having adjacent itsiopposite end a pocket between its side edges opening on the rear face of-the belt end in which the pocket is formed and in spaced relation to the last mentioned end, of a guide in the pocket, two guide bars movable on the guide, spring means in the pocket opposing the movement of the guide bars, an anchoring'device connected to the guide bars and lying behind thatbelt end in which the pocket-is formed,
the buckle.
