Description

Jan-
A. LOSEY BABY HOLDER Filed 0 1926 Patented Jan. 1, 1929.
HTE
ARTHUR S. LOSEY, OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO THE RUSSELL IVIANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT, A CDBPOR-ATION OE CONN ECTLCUT.
BABY HOLDER.
Application filed October 9, 1926. Serial No. 140,668.
My invention relates to the class of devices, more or less in the nature of a harness and especially adapted for holding a, baby in a carriage or similar place, and an object of my invention, among others, is to provide device of this class that shall be simple in construction and particularly efficient in o1eration.
One form of device embodying my invention and in the construction and use of Which the objects herein set out, as Well asothers, may be attained, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a view illustrating the manner of attaching my improved holder in place, showing the front part of the structure.
Figure 2 is a similar View showing the back part of the structure.
Figure 3 is an isometric view of the holder.
Figure & is a detail view illustrating my improved strap retaining plate.
As illustrated herein my improved holder is in the form of a harness comprising a belt 5 that is adapted to be secured about the body of an infant 6. The belt is provided, preferably in the back portion, with a buckle 7 for securing the ends of the belt together, and loops 8 are formed on opposite sides of the belt for attachment of holders 9, these holders being provided With suitable means for securing their ends as to the sides of a carriage or similar de ice, for the purpose of preventing the baby from falling out of the carriage.
Belt supporting straps-10 are arranged to extend over the shoulders of a baby, these straps being preferably crossed at the front and secured to the belt as at points 11 located at some distance apart. These straps pass through, openings in a retainin plate 12' located preferably about midway or the shoulders of the infant and the belt 5. On the back a similar plate 12 is employed through Which the straps 10 extend, but at the back it is preferred that the straps extend from the plate 12 downwardly substantially in line to apoint 13 Where they are secured to the belt substantially at the crosswise center of the back.
This plate comprises an important feature of my invention in that the straps are maintained in position, and the platealso retains its position on the straps. To this end tWo pairs of slots 14-45 are formed on diametrically opposite sides of the center of the plate as to the members of each pair of slots, and each strap is passed through each pair of slots. The straps may be passed through the slots in various Ways, a preferred arrangement being as shown in Figure t in which the straps are passed across the plate on opposite sides thereof thereby not interfering With each other When the straps and plate are bemg adjusted and also not presenting an element of wear of one by the other. I
In accordance With the provisions of the patent statutes Ihave described the principles of operation of my invention, together with the device Which I now consider to represent the best embodiment thereof; but I desire to have it understood that the device shown is only illustrative and that the invention may be carried out by other means and applied to uses other than those above set out.
I claim:
1. A baby holder comprising a belt having means for attachment to the body of an infant, supporting straps secured at their ends to the front of the belt in spaced relation and crossed to pass over the opposite sides of the shoulders of an infant, means for securing belt and crossed to pass over the opposite sides of the shoulders of an infant, means for slidably and adjustably securing said straps at the same point to the belt at the back, and means at the back and front for adjust-ably maintaining the straps in crossed relation.
3. A baby holder comprising a belt having 'means for attachment to the Waist of an in fant su mortin straps secured at their ends to the front of the belt and crossed to pass over the opposite sides of the shoulders of an infant, said straps being again crossed at the back and secured to the belt at their remain mg ends, and means at the front and back for varying the points at Which said straps cross each other.
ARTHUR s. oser.
