Maps.-Localities are indicated on topographical and geographical maps from rectangular coordinates by apparatus comprising a carriage J movable horizontallv on cross-bars I in a box P, and carrying a slide I movable vertically on a screw E. The map is supported on a sheet R of glass or other transparent material forming the front of the box. The carriage is provided with an indicator Q reading the horizontal co-ordinate on a fixed scale O. A button A, the spindle of which projects through a slot in the sheet R, is geared by wheels B and F to an index G reading the vertical co-ordinate on a circular scale H, and, through gearing C, D, with the screw rod E for adjusting the slide I. The slide I carries an index hand L and an electric lamp S controlled by a switch N.
