Head sets.-Telephone receivers are supported on a frame passing over the head so as to allow of vertical and horizontal adjustment, the adjusting means being in or practically in the line of the ear. The frame A, Fig. 1, may be in sections connected together by right and left handed screws, and may be hinged together, as at G, to facilitate folding into a compact form of packing. A band L, which may be adjustable, may be disposed within the frame to prevent metal parts from touching the head. In one form of adjustment for the receiver D, the latter is carried by a ball and socket joint on the end of an arm H hinged to the frame at 1. A pin K, hinged to the arm H and working in a slot in the frame A, provides for both vertical and horizontal adjustment. A nut J secures the pin K in the desired position. In a modification, a link may be hinged to the arm H and to a nut which screws up and down on the vertical part of the frame A. In another form, Fig. 3, the receiver D is carried on an arm P which passes through a carrier N, bent to a U-shape, with a spring N<3> to hold the rod P in any position. The U may be made sufficiently springy to hold the rod.P without an additional spring. The carrier N passes through a ball held in a hinge A<3> in the frame A, and is held by a spring gripping the ball and the carrier N. In a modification, the end of the frame A is formed as a U through which passes the carrier N, and the rod P slides within a U bend of the carrier N and is retained by a lever pivoted to the U and formed so as to grip the rod P between itself and the U in one position and release it in another. The rod P may pass through the end of the frame and through a pear-shaped hole in a plate held down on the rod P by a spring. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the rod K carrying the receiver D slides horizontally in a frame H<1>, hinged at A<9> to the frame A and adjusted by a pin K<1> hinged to the frame A and a nut J<1>. In another form, the rod K slides in a piece which is adjustable vertically with respect to the frame A. In a further modification, Fig. 12, a stirrup a carrying the receiver is hinged to a carrier N, and an extension thereof is provided with notches into which fits a collar c sliding on the carrier N.
