Compound slabs and tiles; facing slabs and tiles.-Cold-glazed wall and floor plates or tiles are produced by casting together two layers of plastic material, one forming the body and the other the glazed layer. The body layer consists of 10 kilograms white dry sand, 2.5 kilograms white terrazo, 4 kilograms white finely ground magnesite of 78 to 90 per cent content, 3.6 litres magnesium chloride solution of 25‹ BÚ., and 0.25 litres alum solution of 6‹ BÚ., and 0.75 litres water. The glazed layer consists of 250 to 300 grams white finely ground' magnesite of 78 to 90 per cent content, 150 to 250 grams colouring matter such as lithopone, zinc green, &c., according to colour desired, and 0.375 litres Epsom salt solution of 22‹ BÚ. mixed to form a pulp, to which is added, whilst stirring, about 20 drops of solution formed by boiling 20 grams. borax in 0.25 litres water, cooling, and adding 2 teaspoonfuls of casein. This mass is spread on a glass plate forming the base of a mould, the plastic body material is then applied, and the whole is left to set. The glazed face may be lacquered.
