Abstract

A composition for the manufacture of floor, wall and roof tiles comprises a mixture of fine powdered sawdust, coarse sawdust, sand and calcined magnesite to which is added a magnesium chloride solution until the mixture reaches the desired consistency. The magnesium chloride solution is obtained by dissolving magnesium chloride in boiling water and is of about 20 per cent strength. Rubber latex and colouring materials may be added to the mixture. In an example, flooring tiles are made from a mixture consisting of 25 per cent fine powdered sawdust, 15 per cent coarse sawdust, the particles of which are about 1/16 inch in size, 5 per cent sand, 35 per cent rubber latex and 20 per cent calcined magnesite.
