Abstract

222,680. Ferrand, F. Oct. 11, 1923. Spindle apparatus.-In spindle apparatus for spinning and doubling yarns of the kind comprising a positively-driven ring flyer surrounding a spindle which is rotated bv the pull of the yarn and reciprocated to build the cop, a loose washer 12, Fig. 1, is provided between the ballcarrying disc 8, of a centrifugal drag device, fixed on the spindle 5 and the coacting stationary drag plate 11, thus preventing the disc 8 from contacting with the plate 11 when the spindle is lifted by the pull of the yarn during its downward reciprocations. In a modification, an antifriction bearing-member comprising balls mounted in a ring carrier is provided, and is either loosely mounted on the spindle or fixed to one of the members 8, 11. In a further modification, a disc 13, Fig. 2, is mounted loosely on the spindle 5 and normally rests on a ledge 14 on the bracket 3, the balls 10 coacting therewith. When the spindle is lifted, the disc 13 is raised into engagement with the drag plate 11 and operates similarly to the washer 12.
