Description
2224456 1 54622.700 Centrifucfal Force Juice Extractor The invention
relates to a centrifugal force juice extractor comprising rotatable straining means arranged in a juice collector.
A juice extractor having a straining basket connectible to a drive for rotation is known from German OLS 3639804. This known juice extractor has a straining basket with slot-like filter openings, which is connected to the drive and is caused to rotate rapidly thereby. The resulting centrifugal force causes juice to be extracted from the material for juice extraction contained in the straining basket and the juice flows into a juice collector. To minimize the proportion of solids in the juice, it is necessary for the individual filter openings in a straining basket of this kind to be kept as small as possible. only by this means can the juice and solids be separated. However, the size of the openings must not fall below a certain level, to obtain optimal separation of solids (pith) from the liquid (juice) in the shortest possible time. The more juice is extracted from the pith using this known juice extractor, the more difficult it is to remove the pith after the juice extraction process has ended from the straining basket, since the solid particles are forced into the slot-like filter openings by the centrifugal force.
According to the invention there is provided a centrifugal force juice extractor comprising rotatable straining means arranged in a juice collector, wherein the straining means comprises a pair of coaxially arranged straining baskets each having a plurality of wall members with spaces therebetween, the wall members of one basket registering with the spaces of the other basket in such a way as to define straining slots 2 between adjacent wall members.
These features ensure that, in the operational state, wall members of one straining basket, e.g. an inner basket, register with the spaces between the wall members of the other straining basket, e.g. an outer basket, to form straining slots. In general, the straining slots are designed so that when juice is extracted the pith is held back and the juice is extracted from the fruit in optimum manner in the shortest possible time. After the juice extraction process has ended, the baskets may be separated from each other, so that, as a result of the relatively large spacing between the wall members of the individual baskets, the pith can be removed completely and the straining baskets can easily be cleaned simply by immersing them in water or rinsing them under running water.
Thus the centrifugal force juice extractor can achieve optimum juice extraction, whilst the proportions of solids in the juice are negligibly small and at the end of the juice extraction process the pith can easily be removed from the straining basket without leaving any trace.
The wall members of the straining baskets are preferably in the form of bars which may be arranged parallel or radially with respect to the rotational axis, or inclined in the direction of rotation. The straining baskets may consist of an outer basket and an inner basket, and the cross sectional area of the bars of the outer basket may for example be greater than the cross sectional area of the bars of the inner basket, whilst the spacings between the bars of the outer basket may be greater than the spacings between the bars of the inner basket.
Advantageously, the bars of at least one basket are triangular in cross section, one surface of each bar facing towards the centre of the straining basket. The 3 bars of the inner basket may be located radially inwardly of the spaces between the bars of the outer basket but preferably they engage in the spaces between the bars of the outer basket.
The juice extractor preferably has rotational drive means arranged to act on the outer basket which has driving means arranged to act on the inner basket. The bars may act as the driving means. By providing bars inclined in the direction of rotation as mentioned above, the inner basket may be pressed towards the base of the outer basket by the centrifugal force of the rapidly rotating outer basket so as to follow the rotary movement of the outer basket without any additional drive means.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:- Figure 1 shows straining means according to the invention; Figure 2 shows the straining means according to Figure 1 with the inner filter basket partly removed; Figure 3 shows a section on the line A-A in Figure 1; Figure 4 shows a partial section of the bars in the position of installation of the straining baskets according to Figure 3, shown on a larger scale.
The straining means for a centrifugal juice extractor consists of the straining basket 1 in which a straining basket 2 is inserted coaxially and releasably, as illustrated in Figure 1. The outer surfaces or walls of the baskets 1 and 2 are formed by bar-like members (bars) 3 and 4 arranged parallel to the drive axis 5 on flanges 6, 7 and 8. The bars 4 of the basket 2 are of triangular cross section, the surfaces 9 of each bar pointing towards the centre of the basket 2. The bars 4 engage in the spaces 10 between the bars 3 of the basket 1 to form straining slots 12. The drive of the juice 4 extractor acts upon the basket 1 and the basket 2 is driven by the bars 3 and 4 acting as driving means.
It is to be clearly understood that there are no particular features of the foregoing specification, or of any claims appended hereto, which are at present regarded as being essential to the performance of the present invention, and that any one or more of such features or combinations thereof may therefore be included in, added to, omitted from or deleted from any of such claims if and when amended during the prosecution of this application or in the filing or prosecution of any divisional application based thereon. Furthermore the manner in which any of such features of the specification or claims are described or defined may is be amended, broadened or otherwise modified in any manner which falls within the knowledge of a person skilled in the relevant art, for example so as to encompass, either implicitly or explicitly, equivalents or generalisations thereof.
