Abstract
An electrical connection system comprises of a branching adaptor (fig. 3) which can plug into a ceiling rose outlet (fig 1) so that more than one device can be used at each outlet. Each of the electrical devices takes power and support from the device or socket above it. Pegs 11 support the adaptor and contacts 23 engage contacts 5 of the rose outlet. Further contacts 24, 27 of the adaptor provide a branching supply. A plug without branching contacts may be provided with pegs and sockets for engaging the rose and suspending a lamp (fig. 2 not shown). An adaptor for plugging into the rose outlet may contain an electronic device and a socket forming a through-supply. Several such adaptors may be stacked. A variety of electronic devices are listed. <IMAGE>
Description
CEILING ROSE SOCKET
This invention relates to an electrical connection system particularly but not exclusively, for use with domestic lighting circuit.
Current connection systems to the domestic lighting circuit include fixed lighting installations and track systems where a number of spot lights can be connected into the circuit at any point along the track. These systems are very limited and are designed for lighting installations only and are relatively fixed once installed.
The object of the prcsent invention is to prouide a simple, stackable and convenient means to connect and disconnect one or more electrical devices into the domestic lighting circuit at any converted outlet.
According to the invention a connection system for the purpose specified comprises of a ceiling rose socket with means to connect to the domestic lighting circuit. Contacts are arranged in r fixed socket layout within the rose housing. The housing also contains means to support the load of any deuice or devices attatched to it.
The devices crn easily be connected to or disconnected from the ceiling rose socket. Mating contacts in the device make electrical connection with the rose socket contacts. The devices can use power from the domestic electricity supply through the mating contacts.
Devices mry also have e second set of contacts in an arrangement similar to that in the ceiling rose socket This device socket enables two or more devices to be stacked The second set of contacts in the device socket can either be directly connected to the first set of mating contacts or be separately contolled/powered from the device.
Devices for use with the ceiling rose socket would include
Fittings for ----- bulb lights
florescent lights
spot lights
safety (emergency) lights
child lights
Smoke detectors
Security devices -- scanning
preventative
Fly killers
Sound to light (disco type)
Child alarm Intercom systems
Household tnn* Hifi sound desributor
Fans
ir cleaners Negative ionisers
Christmas decorations
Remote control light dimmers
Projection devices
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by wry of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which :
Figure 1 shows r cross-sectional view of the ceiling rose socket.
Figure 2 shows r view of a standard device. (lamp) Figure 3 shows r cross-sectional view of a stacking device. (Smoke Detector)
Figure 4 shows the typical wiring diagram of the ceiling rose socket into r domestic ring circuit.
Figure 6 illustrates how different devices can be stacked onto the ceiling rose socket.
Referring to the drawings the ceiling rose socket comprises a housing 1 which encloses a support bracket 2 and electical connections and contacts 4 and 5. The standard device comprises r housing 13 which encloses r support bracket 12 with interlocking pegs 11 and r set of contacts le which make electrical connection to the device 14. The stacking device comprises r housing 2 which encloses r load support bracket 26 with interlocking pegs 22 and r set of contacts 23 which make electrical connection to spring contacts 21 and electrical device connections 24.
The ceiling rose socket is attatched to the ceiling with fixing screws 3. A plourelity of connections are connected one to each of the domestic lighting circuit lines. Each electrical connection is connected to r separate spring contract 6. A lord support bracket 2 is held in housing 1 and secured under fixings 3.
Either of r standard device or r stacking device can be plugged into the ceiling rose. When plugged together the contacts 10 or 23 make connection to the spring contacts 5 and the support pegs 11 or 22 engage in the load support bracket 2.
In the standard device support pegs 11 are fixed to support bracket 12 encased in housing 13 and electrical contacts ie are connected to device 14.
In the stacking device the support pegs 22 are fixed to support bracket 26 and the contacts 23 are connected to the electrical connection 24 to power the device housed in chamber 25. The spring contacts 21 are either connected to contacts 23 or contacts 27 which are powered via the device housed in chamber 25.
4 second stacking device or standard device can again be plugged into the bottom of the stacking device tasking support and making contract as before.
The ceiling rose socket 31 is wired into the domestic lighting ring main as shown in fig.4 with contact 32 connected to switched live via the standard domestic light switch 36. Contact 33 is connected to permanent live, contact 34 to ncutral and contract 35 to earth.
Fig 5 illustrates four configurations of the portent as claimed.
Setup 41 shows r standard light fitting attatched to the ceiling rose socket. 42 has a stackable smoke detector in place of the light fitting. 43 has a standard fan fitted which can switched on and off from the normal domestic switch. The final example 44 has r stackable smoke detector and a standard light fitting stacked onto the ceiling rose socket, the light being connected to switched live and the smoke detector to permanent liuc. Any number and combinations of devices could be stacked in the above manor.
Each device may be fitted with its own fuse for safety.
