Abstract
An interchangeable light fixing that comprises dual units, a fixed unit that is attached to a ceiling joist and an interchangeable unit 6 that can be attached to it by a twisting action. Power may be supplied to the removable light via a circular connection strip 3 and via an internal fixed point at the centre of the unit 4. Terminals may be on top of the fixed unit which may be attached to a ceiling joist by screws. A rose cover may be screwed over the two units to conceal the internal parts. The fixed unit is installed by an electrician and the interchangeable unit can be applied to any lighting design and allows the consumer to change lighting throughout the household or business place without the need of expert electrical assistance.
Description
Interchangeable li&it fixinE This invention relates to an
interchangeable light fixing for both household and commercial use.
The existing lighting units available should involve an electrician attending your home or business to change your lighting. This invention allows the user to easily change a light without the need of electrical expert assistance.
The design is made of two components. The first is a fixed unit [figure 1] that is attached to a ceiling joist in the normal conventional manner and works in similar parameters to the light fixings currently available. The second is a removable unit [figure 2] that has a twisting action that can be easily attached to the first unit and removed without the need of an electrician and, most importantly, is user friendly and safe. In addition, lights are interchangeable without the need of any hand tools. This provides confidence to people who are uncomfortable with electricity and even allows the elderly to change their lights as simply as putting a plug into a socket.
The fixed unit obviously remains in situ but the removable unit is interchangeable.
This allows the consumer to exchange lights throughout the household by either moving existing lights or purchasing new lights with the new removable unit. An added bonus is that lights can be easily removed for cleaning and also for decorating.
The fixed unit The fixed unit is a similar design as the current light fixings available. The unit is attached to the ceiling by two screws. It has three terminals and an earth terminal. The terminals consist of the following: -I. The live terminal. This consists of one live terminal and the switch cable is attached. The power is supplied to the light through an internal fixing and the power is distributed to the removable light via a circular connection strip.
[Figure 3] 2. The neutral terminal. This consists of two terminals that the mains cable is attached. Similar to the live terminal, the power is supplied to the light via an internal fixed point at the centre of the unit. [Figure 4] 3. The loop terminal. This consists of three terminals and has two mains cables attached together with a switch cable. [Figure 5] The terminals are located on a tower on top of the fixed unit rather than internally.
This allows for the fixed unit to contain the electrical connectors, which will be exposed to enable the removable unit to be attached.
The earth terminal is located on the top of the fixed unit and both of the mains cables are attached together with the switch cable.
The removable unit The removable unit is a new concept and has a twisting action that can only be attached to the fixed unit. The unit has an internal two point system that connects to the circular connection strip and fixed point. [Figure 6] How it works The fixed unit is attached to the ceiling joist by two or three screws. The removable unit can then be easily attached by a twisting action. A rose cover is then screwed over the two units to conceal the internal parts. This makes the light-fixing look identical to all other existing lights within the household or workplace.
The light can be interchanged with ease by removing the rose cover, unscrewing the existing light and replacing with a new light. There is no need for an electrician.
Claims (4)
- Claims I. The dual unit means that lights are interchangeable,
- 2. Thesystem comprises of two electrical points in the fixed unit that connect with the removable unit making it interchangeable.
- 3. The dual unit, according to claim I, allows the user to attach lighting without the need of expert electrical assistance, once the fixed unit has been attached to the ceiling beam.
- 4. The fixed unit can be installed in all new builds allowing the buyer to transfer existing lighting from their previous household or, alternatively, purchase new lights.
